Toaster and Mabel … so many possibilities!

I’d  been eyeing up this giraffe print fabric from Fabric Godmother for a few weeks. I couldn’t decide whether I was ready to take the plunge into animal print clothing (I’ve got leopard print ballet pumps and love them!) but when there was a remnant sale a few weeks ago, I snapped up 0.7m for £4.99 and then bought another metre at full price. I still didn’t have a real plan of what I was going to make!

When the fabric arrived, I did toy with the idea of another Berlin Jacket. It’s a mohair wool mix with a jersey backing so doesn’t fray. However when I draped it round my shoulders, I wasn’t too convinced! I’ve seen some ladies looking lovely in animal print fabrics recently but I just think it would’ve made me look like an ageing market trader!

So I decided to try and squeeze  another Toaster 1 sweater from Sew House Seven and a Mabel Skirt by Colette Patterns from 1.7m. It was tight but I managed it which gave me no end of satisfaction – I really have a thing for using all the fabric up! They are both exceedingly quick makes and apart from adding a couple of inches to the Mabel skirt, I didn’t make any other adjustments. As I was making them, I did wonder if they’d work together as a dress … and I think they do?

But endless possibilities as separates too. Cosy for a winter walk on the beach …

Or just the skirt with a top for work …

Or with smarter jeans for an evening out …

I think these are going to get lots of wear … particularly in this cold snap!
